Ottumwa, IA – No. 7 Indian Hills Women's Soccer cruised to its fourth consecutive shutout with a 6-0 win over North Iowa Area Community College at home on Wednesday. The Warriors improve to 12-2-0 overall on the year.
Indian Hills has now outscored its opponents 21-0 during the team's four-match winning streak as the Warriors secured back-to-back 12-win seasons for the first time since 2018-19. Five different players scored on the day as Indian Hills boasted its 10th shutout of the year, second-most in program history.
Wednesday's match also proved to be a part of Sophomore Day as the Warriors honored their 13 members of its graduating class prior to the start of the contest.
The Warriors had little trouble handling the Trojans at home, scoring three goals in each half. Sophomore Ella Forsyth (Grimes, IA/Dallas Center-Grimes) opened the scoring in the 20th minute on assists from Mayo Kawashima (Osaka, Japan/Osaka Gakugei) and Nana Tanikawa (Kawasaki, Japan/Takatsu) before fellow sophomore Arnicka Louis (Castries, Saint Lucia/Sir Ira Simmons) found the back of the net five minutes later. Forsyth capped the first-half scoring with a strike in the 38th minute to give Indian Hills a 3-0 edge at halftime.
Kawashima was on the receiving end of an assist from Louis at the 56:05 mark for her third goal of the season. Tanikawa buried a goal for the third time this season in the 69th minute before freshman Momoka Kinoshita (Kagawa, Japan/Kagawa Nishi) scored an impressive goal from outside the box in the 70th minute to give the Warriors its final tally.
The Warriors outshot the Trojans 24-3 on the day as sophomore keeper Kyrsten DeWees (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa) stopped all three shots to earn her first collegiate win in net behind the complete game shutout.
With the two goals, Forsyth now extends her scoring streak to 10 matches on the year, which currently leads all individuals in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) this season. The streak is also the longest in school history.
Louis tallied four points on the day and has now scored at least one point in all but two matches on the year, including seven matches with at least four points.
The Warriors recognized 13 members of their Sophomore class on Wednesday: Krysten DeWees, Michelle Salazar, Yazmin Sorensen, Kiara Levac, Sienna Havill, Arnicka Louis, Aubree Boyd, Haifa Rios, Mia Garza, Mayo Kawashima, Nana Tanikawa, Ella Forsyth, and Sumiko Ramos.
Indian Hills is back in action Friday afternoon with a 3:00 PM match vs. Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) foe Iowa Western Community College, ranked No. 6 in the latest national polls.
