Ottumwa, IA – No. 9 Indian Hills Women's Soccer pitched its ninth shutout of the season as the Warriors blanked visiting Northeast Community College (NE) 3-0 at the IHCC Soccer Complex on Saturday. The Warriors improve to 11-2-0 overall on the year.
Three different individuals found the back of the net to power the Warrior offense, including top goal scorer Arnicka Louis (Castries, Saint Lucia/Sir Ira Simmons) who provided the eventual game-winner. Fellow sophomores Kiara Levac (Sudbury, Canada/__) and Nana Tanikawa (Kawasaki, Japan/Takatsu) aided in the scoring for the Warriors.
Indian Hills has now collected three consecutive shutouts, outscoring its opponents 15-0 along the way. The Warriors now rank 11th in the nation with a 0.54 goals against average on the year while the offense's 50 goals scored on the year rank 10th best in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
The Warriors outshot the Hawks 13-6 overall on the day, including a 6-5 edge on shots on goal. Indian Hills tallied four corner kicks on the day compared to just one for Northeast.
Louis opened up the scoring in the 24th minute as the sophomore corralled a long through ball from Mayo Kawashima (Osaka, Japan/Osaka Gakugei) and beat the Hawk keeper for her team-leading 16th goal of the season.
Levac put home a loose ball in front of the net in the 35th minute to double the lead as Kawashima was credited with another assist on the score. Tanikawa put the game out of reach in the 67th minute on a rebound in front of the net to give the Warriors a comfortable three goal advantage.
Louis' 16 goals are currently tied for third-most in the nation while Levac climbed the assists leaderboard and now ranks third nationally with 12 helpers on the year, following by Kawashima's 10.
Freshman Annabelle Combes (Valence, France/Tezenas du Montcel) stopped five shots on the day to preserve the shutout. Combes picked up her nation-leading 11th win of the year while lowering her goals against average to 0.59.
Saturday's match also served as Domestic Violence Awareness Day for the Warriors. Indian Hills donned custom purple uniforms while collecting personal care items to donate to local organizations as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month throughout October.
Indian Hills returns to action Wednesday afternoon with a home date vs. North Iowa Area Community College at 1:00 PM. Wednesday's matchup will also include pre-game festivities as part of Sophomore Day to recognize the outgoing sophomore class.
