Godfrey, IL – The No. 19 nationally ranked Indian Hills Women's Soccer team used three early strikes to run past No. 16 Lewis & Clark Community College (IL) on the road Friday as the Warriors upset the Blazers 4-1. Indian Hills improves to 6-1-0 on the year.
The Warriors ran their win streak to six matches after three goals in the first 20 minutes of play propelled Indian Hills past the ranked Blazers. Indian Hills has now knocked off a top-20 opponent in back-to-back seasons. The Warriors are currently tied for the most wins in the nation this year and have outscored their opponents 23-2 during their six-match win streak.
The Warriors wasted no time getting on the board as sophomore Ella Forsyth (Grimes, IA/Dallas Center-Grimes), this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week put home a goal 1:35 into the contest on a free kick from 20 yards out.
After Lewis & Clark tied the match up at 1-1 less than 10 minutes later, the Warriors went to its top goal scorer in sophomore Arnicka Louis (Castries, Saint Lucia/Sir Ira Simmons) as the forward chipped a shot past the outstretched arms of the Blazer keeper on an assist from Mayo Kawashima (Osaka, Japan/Osaka Gakugei) and Forsyth.
The Warriors needed just one minute to add a third goal and extend its lead as Louis found the back of the net once again, this time on a long through ball from Kawashima. The Warriors capitalized on an own goal from Lewis & Clark in the opening minutes of the second half to put the game out of reach.
Sophomore Annabelle Combes (Valence, France/Tezenas du Montcel) picked up the win in net, stopping five shots in the victory. The freshman now leads the nation in goalie wins.
Indian Hills is back in action Sunday afternoon with an 11:00 AM matchup at Southwestern Illinois College in Belleville, IL.
