Ottumwa, IA – No. 19 Indian Hills Women's Soccer extended its win streak to five matches with a 4-0 shutout of visiting Iowa Lakes Community College on its home pitch Wednesday afternoon. The Warriors improve to 5-1-0 overall on the year.
Indian Hills pitched its fourth shutout during the team's five-match win streak as the Warriors put home three second half goals to run away from the Lakers, ranked No. 16 in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DII Women's Soccer Poll. Indian Hills has now outscored its opponents 20-4 on the year.
Sophomore Mayo Kawashima (Osaka, Japan/Osaka Gakugei) put home the Warriors' first goal of the match in the 28th minute as freshman Meghan Lorjuste (Montreal, Canada/Ecole Marie-Anne) played a deep pass from the Warriors' defensive end to find a streaking Kawashima. Indian Hills maintained its one-goal advantage into the halftime intermission as the Warriors controlled the offensive tempo through the first 45 minutes of play.
Just 1:31 into the second half, sophomore Ella Forsyth (Grimes, IA/Dallas Center-Grimes) buried a penalty kick goal to double the lead. Indian Hills pushed the lead to 3-0 in the 52nd minute as Nana Tanikawa (Kawasaki, Japan/Takatsu) added a penalty kick goal of her own after being taken down in the box. Forsyth tacked on an insurance goal in the 79th minute on an assist from Kawashima to put the game out of reach.
Freshman Annabelle Combes (Valence, France/Tezenas du Montcel), this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Goalkeeper of the Week stopped one shot on net to preserve the team shutout.
Forsyth, this week's ICCAC rip to No. 16 nationally ranked Lewis & Clark Community College at 1:00 PM on Friday afternoon in Godfrey, IL.
