PREVIEW: WOMEN'S SOCCER SET FOR TEXAS SWING

Corsicana, TX – A new year of Indian Hills Women's Soccer is set to get underway this weekend as the Warriors head to Texas for three matches in four days to open the 2025 campaign.

The Indian Hills Women's Soccer squad hits the road to the Lone Star State to open up the 19th season of Warrior women's soccer. The Warriors will take on nationally ranked Navarro College (TX), Cisco College (TX), and Paris Junior College (TX) to kick-off the new season.

OPENING KICK

Head coach Jon Hussak, entering his third season at the helm of the program, will lead the Warriors into a new year after posting a 12-6 overall record last season while advancing to the NJCAA Midwest District Tournament.

  • The Warriors return 10 members of last year's squad to provide a veteran presence on the pitch.
  • Indian Hills' top two scorers from a year ago - Arnicka Louis (31pts, 11g, 9a) and Kiara Levac (20pts, 7g, 6a) return to the program for the 2025 season to power the offense.
  • NJCAA All-Region 11 performers Mayo Kawashima, Nana Tanikawa, and Sumiko Ramos return for the Warrior defense.
  • Dating back to the 2016 season, the Warriors are 60-11-4 (.827) on its home pitch.
  • The Warriors have played just three games all-time against teams from the state of Texas prior to the 2025 season.

HUSSAK'S NOTES

"Texas is going to be not only a test of our ability and level, but also a test of our character and tenacity as a team," stated head coach Jon Hussak. "Our team is connecting well and they are super eager to get the season going. This will be a good test for them and the direction that they want to take for the season as players."

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS

Ranked No. 5 in the NJCAA DI Women's Soccer Preseason Poll, Navarro is coming off a 16-2-1 overall record.

  • A perennial national power, the Bulldogs advanced to the NJCAA DI Women's Soccer National Tournament last season and have qualified for the national postseason event five times in the last seven seasons.
  • The Bulldogs return two of its top-four scorers from last season in Aoi Kawabuchi (35pts, 12g, 11a) and Zoe Nelson (23pts, 6g, 11a).
  • Navarro's two primary goalkeepers from last season, Fabiola Mishell and Kate Palmieri both return to the program.
  • Navarro is under the direction of head coach Paul Davenport in his first season with the program.
  • Indian Hills has matched up with Navarro just once before - a narrow 2-1 loss to the then-No. 7 nationally ranked Bulldogs on August 25, 2024 in Ottumwa.

SCOUTING THE WRANGLERS

Cisco heads into the 2025 campaign after going winless a year ago with an 0-14-0 overall record.

  • The Wranglers are 15-46-2 over the past five seasons.
  • Cisco is led by head coach Angel Medel.
  • Indian Hills has matched up with Cisco just once before - a 6-0 win in Ottumwa on September 28, 2004.

SCOUTING THE LADY DRAGONS

Paris is coming off a 7-11-2 overall record from a year ago, tied for the program's most wins in a single season in school history.

  • Sophomores Ciara Johnson and Chasity Rivera return as the top-two scorers from last year, combinig for 17 points.
  • Lyla Stovall returns as the top keeper from last year's squad, having started 16 contests with a .797 save percentage.
  • Head coach Paul Burns is set to begin his second season at the helm of the program.
  • Indian Hills and Paris will be meeting for the first time in program history.

WHAT'S NEXT

Indian Hills will return home to host the IHCC Classic August 29-31. The Warriors will host the five-game, three-day event at the IHCC Soccer Complex in Ottumwa. Indian Hills will square off against Western Wyoming Community College at 11:00 AM on August 31.
