SIX WARRIORS EARN ALL-REGION HONORS

Ottumwa, IA – Six members of the Indian Hills Women's Soccer team were named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Women's Soccer All-Region team, announced on Tuesday. The Warriors posted a program record 18 wins on the year.

Three members of the team were named to the All-Region XI First-Team as Abbie Bailey (Redditch, England/Arrowvale), Risa Ogasawara (Yokohama, Japan/Hinomoto) and Bailey Wiemann (Burlington, IA/Burlington) received top honors.

KJ Schmidt (Cedar Rapids, IA/Washington), Seira Uko (Toba City, Japan/Jumonji), and Hope Ward (Burlington, IA/Burlington Notre Dame) were named to the All-Region XI Honorable Mention team to round out the postseason accolades for the Warriors.

Wiemann put together one of the most dominant offensive seasons in program history for the Warriors. As a sophomore, Wiemann ranked second in the nation with 65 total points and 25 goals on the year. The sophomore also tied for third nationally with 15 assists. The five-time Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week, Wiemann finished her Indian Hills career ranked second in program history in points (97) and goals (36), and fourth in assists (25).

Ogasawara also completed a stellar career in Ottumwa near the top of the record books. As a sophomore, Ogasawara scored 15 goals and added 10 assists for a total of 40 points on the year. Ogasawara ranks sixth all-time with 60 career points and fifth all-time with 22 goals.

Bailey anchored one of the stingiest defenses in the nation as a true freshman. The defender made 18 starts on the year for a team that recorded 12 shutouts, the second best mark in the nation. Bailey also tallied three goals and an assist on the year.

After receiving an additional year of eligibility due to COVID-19, Schmidt returned to provide valuable leadership to the Warrior program. In the defender's final year, Schmidt started 18 contests and scored two goals along with five total assists on the year. Schmidt leaves Ottumwa as the winningest student-athlete in program history.

Ward served as a key piece of the Warrior defense for the second consecutive year. As a sophomore, Ward started 18 matches on the backline that limited the opposition to just 0.76 goals per contest on the year. Ward tallied five goals on the season, all coming off set pieces while tallying one assist for the Warriors.

A true freshman, Uko managed both sides of the ball from the central midfield position for the Warriors while starting all 20 games. Uko tied for second on the team with 10 assists on the year while adding three goals for the nationally ranked Warriors.

The Warriors completed the 2021 season with an 18-2-0 record and a final ranking of No. 12 after not receiving an at-large berth to the NJCAA National Tournament. The sophomore class posted a two-year record of 29-5-2 and made a trip to the Spring 2021 national tournament, the first in program history.
