Ottumwa -- The Indian Hills women's soccer team left no doubt as to the winner of this year's Wells Fargo Cup in a weekend tourney the Warriors hosted on their own field. Fresh off a 12-1 pasting of Jefferson (Mo.) College on Friday, IHCC claimed the Cup for the second year in a row with an 8-1 drubbing of Southeastern Sunday.
Freshman Emily Murphy continued the amazing start to her college career, netting her fourth hat trick is as many matches. Murphy scored three goals in a ten-minute span in the opening half and added two more scores, one in each half, to lead IHCC to its fourth consecutive victory to begin the year. Murphy's goals give her 15 for the season. Emma Rosner and Carmen Kager had their first goals of the fall and Miranda Kurtt scored her fifth as the Warriors pushed their advantage over their first four foes to 35-6 in goals scored.
Indian Hills outshot the visitors, 33-5 and IHCC goalkeeper Megan Wick made two saves. The lone goal for SCC came in the 80th minute and was immediately answered by Kager's score that rounded out the scoring.
Rosner assisted on one of Murphy's goals and the one by Kager and leads the team with 10 assists, one more than Kiri Chiba and two better than Charlyann Pizzarello. Miranda Kurtt has seven assists for an IHCC team that returns to action this Thursday at Bloomington, Illinois against Heartland CC. The Warriors travel to Norfolk, Nebraska on Saturday to meet Northeast CC.
