Ottumwa -- Harriet (Hattie) Jones, a centre midfielder from Bristol, England, is headed to Indian Hills in the fall to play for the Warriors. Jones, who has competed for Dursley Town, Bristol Academy, Bristol City, and the England Colleges National Team, is a "tremendous player with a lot of potential," according to IHCC coach Stephanie Gale.
Jones was chosen to play on the England Colleges National Team in a competition against Wales and also went on a tour to Portugal with the squad. She was named captain of her school team and led them to the national playoffs this year.
Jones, asked why she chose Indian Hills, said, "I believe the school can offer me a really great education on a beautiful campus with great facilities, as well as allowing me to play the sport I love at a competitive level in an extremely strong conference. The impact coach Gale has had on the team in her time there also really helped with my decision. She's a top coach with loads of ideas to help the team grow stronger."
The newest IHCC recruit explained that she's excited about the challenges she will face in America, "not only in soccer where I'll be playing a different style with a really diverse group of players, but also the social aspect. The togetherness at Indian Hills is very obvious and Stephanie and some of the girls I've spoken to have all been very welcoming and it seems that the team is like one big family."
Gale said she coached Jones' older sister, Charlotte, when the IHCC coach was at Northern Iowa and that Charlotte brought leadership and hard work on and off the field. "Hattie is a younger version of her sister, but I think she is going to work twice as hard to reach her goal of playing at the highest level," Gale said. "As Hattie develops her game with different styles around her I have no doubt that she will become a key piece to the success here at Indian Hills."
Having played alongside some of the best players in England with the national team and representing her country elsewhere in Europe, Gale is confident Jones will be comfortable playing at a high level in pressure situations. "I already know Hattie has been in contact with many of the players here and players coming in and it's been great to see the development of the future 2016 family. The team here is a tight-knit group who all have the same vision and goal which makes for one exciting year to come."
