Sophie Greenwood Signs with IHCC

Ottumwa -- Sophie Greenwood is the latest English soccer player to decide she will be bringing her talents to Indian Hills to play for the Warriors. Greenwood signed her letter of intent, according to Indian Hills coach Stephanie Gale.

Greenwood has a rather unusual soccer history -- she played for a boys team in her native Burnley from ages six to 11. She became a captain when she was eight years old and kept the captaincy through age 18.

She is also friends with Hannah Till, who signed earlier with the Warriors.

Greenwood played right wing until breaking her foot, then switched to center. "Indian Hills has a lot to offer and excites me a lot," said the IHCC signee. "I am excited to play a lot of soccer, develop my game, experience different opportunities in the U.S. and meet a lot of new people from various cultures. This will, hopefully, help me develop in every aspect and help me grow into a well-rounded individual."

Gale is very impressed with Greenwood's attacking style, the fact she keeps the game simple with her quick, short, sharp passes and that she leads the game at her pace. "I'm very excited for the overall work ethic Sophie brings to the table," Gale commented. "I know she will be a key element in our game, attacking and playing defense. She has played alongside some of the best players in her age group, and I want everyone to be a talented young athlete and not have just one key player."

With six players signed for next season, Gale says she is looking forward to the 2015 season with the "high talent that is coming in."
