Michael Wetrich is set to begin his fourth full season with the Indian Hills Men's Golf program in 2025-26. Wetrich was named the 11th head coach in Indian Hills Men's Golf history on February 8, 2022.
In four full seasons with the Warriors, Wetrich has continued the longstanding tradition of national success within the Indian Hills Men's Golf program. Under Wetrich, the Warriors captured the 2023 NJCAA DI Men's Golf National Championship, the seventh title in program history. Following an eighth-place finish in 2024, Wetrich guided the Warriors to a third-place finish at the 2025 NJCAA DI Men's Golf National Championship at Sand Creek Station in Newton, KS.
The 2024-25 season saw another stellar campaign for the Warriors as Wetrich guided the program towards the top of the national leaderboards. Indian Hills surged in the final rounds of the national championship to secure the program's 18th top-three finish. Indian Hills was awarded three individual All-American honors - Charlie Preston (10th), Emilio Arellano Lamas (11th), and Carl Knauer (17th). The Warriors automatically qualified for the national tournament, the program's 38th consecutive cut, after finishing as the NJCAA Central District Championship runners-up.
The 2024-25 regular season saw the Warriors capture two team titles with the Western Illinois Intercollegiate at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, IL and the Blue River Classic at Highlands Golf Course in Lincoln, NE.
Academically, the Warriors were once again named a NJCAA Academic Team of the Year while five individuals were named to the 2024-25 NJCAA All-Academic Team. The program earned 14 ICCAC Academic All-Region honors between the fall and spring seasons.
The 2023-24 academic year saw the Warriors maintain the No. 1 spot in the national rankings through a majority of the year while sophomore Gaspar Glaudas was the No. 1 ranked individual in the nation wire-to-wire. The Warriors claimed the NJCAA Central District Championship, its first since 2019 while Jose Carletta was the individual district champion. The Warriors placed eighth overall at the NJCAA DI Men's Golf National Championship in Hobbs, NM while both Glaudas and Carletta earned NJCAA Second-Team All-American honors. As a team, the Warriors placed in the top-10 in all 11 events on the year, including two team titles and seven top-three finishes. Glaudas was recognized as the 2023-24 ICCAC Male Student-Athlete of the Year and the Gary Player International Golfer of the Year while Carletta was tapped as a College Sports Communicators Academic All-American®.
In his first full campaign with the Warriors, Wetrich led the program to its seventh national championship in 2023 at Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, KS, winning the tournament by 11 strokes with a 25-under 1,127. For his efforts, Wetrich was named the 2022-23 NJCAA Division I Dave Williams National Coach of the Year. Wetrich's unprecedented year was highlighted by three NJCAA All-Americans, two PING All-Americans, and five team titles, including the national championship.
The 2022-23 season saw Wetrich and the Warriors capture the team title in each of the program's first two events of the year - the Siouxland Invite and the Bent Tree Intercollegiate. The Warriors also claimed a pair of titles in April with the Prairie Dunes Collegiate and the Bethany College Classic. Indian Hills placed second overall in the NJCAA Central District Championship before making a historic run through the NJCAA National Championship field for the program's sixth national title since 2011.
Jose Miguel Ramirez became the sixth individual national champion in program history after firing a 12-under to finish atop the leaderboard and earn NJCAA and PING All-American honors. Gaspar Glaudas was named to the NJCAA and PING All-American squads as well as a spot on the NJCAA All-Freshman team.
Academically, the Warriors were named an NJCAA Academic Team of the Year with a 3.0 GPA while all seven members of the program earned ICCAC Academic All-Region honors in the spring semester.
Wetrich guided the Warriors through the spring portion of the 2022-23 academic year that resulted in a 12th place finish at the NJCAA DI Men's Golf National Championship in Odessa, TX. Freshman Frank Vucic was named a first-team NJCAA All-American after a fourth-place finish at the national championship, the program's best individual finish since 2018.
During the Spring 2022 campaign, the Warriors placed third overall at the Lindenwood Invitational and third overall at the Prairie Dunes Collegiate at the historic Prairie Dunes Golf Course. As a team, the Warriors placed third overall at the NJCAA Central Distrit Championship to earn an automatic bid to the national championship.
An Ottumwa native, Wetrich joined the Indian Hills department after most recently serving as the Director of Golf Operations of The Club in Ottumwa. Wetrich managed day-to-day operations and the organization's communication plan while actively recruiting golfers and building the newly established Junior Golf Program. Wetrich has also served as the Assistant Golf Professional at the Butte des Morts Country Club in Appleton, WI.
Wetrich brings a wealth of competitive playing experience to Indian Hills. Wetrich played collegiate golf at the University of Northern Iowa where he was selected as the team captain.
Wetrich has received licenses for the Wisconsin State Golf Association Rules & Regulations, the PGA of America Players Test & Rules Exam, and his Series 7, Series 66, and Life and Health Financial Securities Licenses.
Wetrich and his wife, Marissa, have one daughter, Collins.
