Ottumwa, IA – Sophomore Gaspar Glaudas (Sainte Tulle, France/Shattuck-St. Mary's) of the Indian Hills Men's Golf team has been named the 2024 Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Male Student-Athlete of the Year, announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
The No. 1 ranked golfer in the nation this year, Glaudas set himself apart as one of the top student-athletes across the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) during his sophomore campaign. Glaudas was recognized at all levels of golf throughout the duration of the year, from institutional, to conference, to national, to international headlines.
"Gaspar has been a joy to get to know and coach over the last two years," stated Indian Hills Men's Golf Head Coach Michael Wetrich. "His accomplishments and leadership while at Indian Hills has been second to none. I'm very excited to see what he does the next two years at Stetson University and am thrilled he is getting recognized as the ICCAC Male Student-Athlete of the Year.
Glaudas earned the top spot in the national Scoreboard Powered by Clippd NJCAA rankings from start to finish after an unprecedented run in 2023-24. Following a NJCAA First-Team All-American season as a freshman last season, Glaudas put together 10 consecutive top-10 tournament finishes to close out his Indian Hills career, including two individual titles while keeping the Warriors as a consistent presence in the top-5 of the team national rankings.
On the course, Glaudas posted 16 of his 32 rounds this year in the 60's, including a season-best 66 twice. Glaudas finished 10 of his 11 tournaments under par with a season-low 10-under coming at the Western Illinois Intercolegiate.
As a sophomore, Glaudas was recognized as a PING First-Team All-American and a NJCAA Second-Team All-American while landing a spot on the NJCAA All-Central District Team. Glaudas was twice named the SwingU Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Golfer of the Month (October and April) while earning the SwingU GCAA Golfer of the Fall season. Glaudas was also named the ICCAC DI Men's Golfer of the Week five times and was recognized as the Indian Hills Male Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of November.
On the grand stage, Glaudas was named to the Ben Hogan Award Watch List, the lone junior college golfer named to the list of 40 individuals. The award annually honors the top men's NCAA Division I, II or III, NAIA or NJCAA college golfer based on all collegiate, amateur and professional events over the previous 12 months. Glaudas was also one of just two individuals from the NJCAA to be named an Arnold Palmer Cup Candidate.
In the classroom, Glaudas has been named to the ICCAC Academic All-Region 11 First-Team twice for maintaining a GPA between 3.5-4.0. The sophomore also served as a member of the Indian Hills Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)
The sophomore recently led the Warriors to its 27th all-time top-10 finish at the national championship in Hobbs, NM. Glaudas placed ninth overall among more than 150 individuals while the team placed 8th overall.
Glaudas becomes the first Indian Hills male to be recognized as the ICCAC Student-Athlete of the Year, and just the second individual in Indian Hills history to earn the honor, joining Eliana Bommarito who was honored as the 2023 ICCAC Female Student-Athlete of the Year. Glaudas is also the first ICCAC Men's Golfer to earn the ICCAC Student-Athlete of the Year honor since its inception in 2017-18.
Glaudas is joined by Iowa Central Community College student-athlete Landry McCoid and Des Moines Area Community College's Courtney Donahue who were named Co-ICCAC Female Student-Athletes of the Year.
Glaudas has committed to continue his academic and athletic career at Stetson University next season in DeLand, FL.
