WOMEN'S COMMUNITY COLLEGE NATIONAL RANKINGS - WEEK 1
Ottumwa, IA – 24 student-athletes of the Indian Hills Women's Wrestling team have been recognized by Team USA and the national committee of junior college coaches in the first Women's Community College national rankings of the year. As a team, the Warriors are ranked No. 1 in the nation, announced Thursday afternoon.
The Warriors, the defending Junior College National Champions, placed 24 individuals in the national rankings spanning 11 different weight classes. Indian Hills placed three individuals at the No. 1 spot in their respective weight class, tied with Umpqua Community College (OR) for the most among any one team in the national rankings.
The Warriors, who return three individual national champions and 12 All-Americans from last year's championship team, are highlighted by sophomores Mya Turnmire (Rockford, IL/Harlem) in the 101lb weight class, Chloe Clemons (Center Point, IA/Pleasant Valley) in the 109lb weight class, and Heaven-Leigh Jackson (Brooksville, FL/Hernando) in the 116lb weight class who are all ranked No. 1 nationally.
Freshman Kennedy Shropshire (Lawrenceville, GA/Mountain View) is ranked No. 1 behind Clemons in the 109lb weight class and sophomore Jamesa Robinson (Minneapolis, MN/Patrick Henry) is ranked second behind Jackson's No. 1 rank. Defending national champion Sofia Rubio (Tempe, AZ/Marco De Niza) comes in at No. 2 in the 191lb weight class while Angelique Torres (Kissimmee, FL/Gateway) is ranked second in the 130lb weight class.
In total, 13 Warriors are ranked inside the top-five in the individual national rankings and four different weight classes feature three Warriors.
