NO. 1! WARRIORS TOP FIRST NATIONAL POLL

WOMEN'S COMMUNITY COLLEGE NATIONAL RANKINGS - WEEK 1

Ottumwa, IA – The Indian Hills Women's Wrestling squad is ranked No. 1 in the nation in the first Women's Community College national rankings of the 2021-22 season, announced by Team USA Wrestling on Thursday. The defending national champions were recognized by the national committee of junior college coaches.

The Warriors topped the initial rankings after a strong start to the 2021 season. Indian Hills is coming off a historic season where the Warriors claimed the first-ever Junior College National Championship (JCNC) title. The Warriors return three national champions and 12 All-Americans from last year's squad.

The Warriors have showcased their talents in three different events this year – the Falcon Invitational in Park City, KS, the Lindenwood Open in St. Charles, MO, and the team's first dual of the season at William Penn University this past Tuesday night. Freshman Kennedy Shropshire (Lawrenceville, GA/Mountain View) highlighted the Warriors in both open meets with a pair of medalist performances including a first-place showing in the 109lb weight class at the Lindenwood Open.

In the team's first dual action of the season, the Warriors dominated NAIA member William Penn 38-7. Three different Warriors collected pins in the match to lead the way to victory.

Umpqua Community College (OR), who finished fourth at last year's national championship, is ranked second in the inaugural poll followed by Big Bend Community College (WA), last year's runner-up, Grays Harbor College (WA), and Southwestern Oregon Community College to round out the top five of the 12-team poll.

Along with the team's No. 1 national ranking, 24 individuals were recognized in the national rankings, including three Warriors ranked No. 1 overall. To read more, visit: 24 WARRIORS EARN NATIONAL RANKING

In the team's first-ever home dual action, the Warriors welcome Iowa Western Community College, ranked No. 6 in the national rankings, NCAA DII Chadron State College, and NAIA Hastings College.

Saturday's meet, set to begin at 2:00 PM, will be preceded by the team's national championship ring ceremony to honor last year's title. For more information, visit: WARRIORS TO HOST RING CEREMONY DEC. 11
