Ottumwa, IA – Sophomore Ava Smith (Waukee, IA/Waukee Northwest) of the Indian Hills Softball team has been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Softball Player of the Week for the fourth time this season, announced Tuesday afternoon by the league office.
Smith powered the offense to lead Indian Hils to a 6-2 mark on the week, including four ICCAC victories. Smith went 14-25 (.560) on the week to up her team-leading batting average to .491 on the year, second-best in the ICCAC. The sophomore tallied eight extra base hits on the week, including five home runs in five separate games for the Warriors.
Smith opened the week with a 3-4 performance against North Central Missouri College, driving in a carer-high five runs on a home run and a double. The sophomore added two hits in both ends of Wednesday's doubleheader sweep at Southeastern Community College before going 5-7 with two home runs in Saturday's sweep of Southwestern Community College. Smith added two more hits, including a home run, in game two against Iowa Western Community College on Sunday.
In addition to Smith's batting average, the sophomore ranks second in the ICCAC with nine runs and fourth overall with 35 RBI. Smith also ranks second in the ICCAC with a .552 on-base percentage and second overall with an .880 slugging percentage.
The Warriors return to action April 17 at North Central Missouri College. First pitch for the non-league doubleheader in Trenton, MO is set for 2:00 PM.
