ANDERSON, CHEEK SWEEP ICCAC HONORS

Ottumwa, IA – Sydney Anderson (Elkhart, IA/North Polk) and Ryann Cheek (Eldridge, IA/North Scott) of the Indian Hills Softball team have swept the weekly Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) awards after leading the Warriors to the regular season conference title.

The Warriors posted a 6-0 record last week behind the play of both Anderson and Cheek to close out the regular season with a 43-8 overall record and a 23-1 league mark. Indian Hills is now set for the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI Tournament May 7-9 in Burlington, IA.

Anderson, who is the two-time reigning national player of the week, earns her third consecutive ICCAC Player of the Week award and fourth overall after helping the Warriors set a new program record for home runs in a season with 118. Anderson, who previously set the individual single season home run record this year, batted .632 last week with three home runs, including a pair in the regular season finale against Iowa Western Community College.

Anderson concluded the regular season tied for first nationally with 31 home runs and ranked fourth in the NJCAA with 83 RBI. The freshman batted .497 with a 1.164 slugging percentage.

Cheek picked up two wins in the circle last week for the Warriors to improve to 9-1 on the year. The freshman southpaw worked 11.1 innings while allowing just one earned run. Cheek struck out 17 batters and issued just two walks to lower her season earned run average to 2.92.

The ICCAC Pitcher of the Week honor is the second of the season for Cheek after the freshman earned the award on April 5. The Warriors have earned six ICCAC Pitcher of the Week awards and six ICCAC Player of the Week awards this season.

The 2022 NJCAA Region XI Tournament gets underway Saturday as the No. 1 seeded Warriors will play the winner of No. 4 Southwestern Community College and No. 5 Marshalltown Community College at 2:00 PM.
