Ottumwa, IA – The Indian Hills Softball team continued to make headlines as the Warriors collected a pair of Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week honors in Sydney Anderson (Elkhart, IA/North Polk) and Madie Anderson (Mt. Pleasant, IA/Winfield Mt. Union).
The Warriors relied on the outstanding play of both individuals on their way to a 7-1 record last week. Sydney Anderson powered the offense to earn Player of the Week honors while Madie Anderson earned Pitcher of the Week recognition for leading the team in the circle. Following the impressive week, the Warriors cracked the national rankings at No. 19 in the nation.
Sydney Anderson, the reigning national player of the week, continued to swing the bat at a torrid pace. The freshman first baseman broke the all-time single season home run record at Indian Hills, connecting on nine home runs last week to break Brooke Snider's 2019 mark of 27. Anderson batted .480 during the week while driving in 18 runs and scoring 17 more.
Sydney Anderson, who is currently riding a 13-game hitting streak, has hit 14 home runs over the team's last 12 games, including four games with multi-home run performances. The award is the third ICCAC Athlete of the Week honor for Anderson and the fifth overall this year for the Warriors.
Sydney Anderson is currently tied for first in the nation with 28 home runs on the year. The freshman also ranks second with 175 total bases, fifth with 73 RBI, and seventh with a 1.151 slugging percentage.
Madie Anderson continued to flourish during her freshman season at Indian Hills. The right-handed pitcher recorded three of the team's seven wins last week while pitching 20.1 innings in the circle. Anderson struck out 19 batters while allowing just six earned runs.
In a complete game win at Marshalltown, Madie Anderson struck out nine batters without issuing a walk. Anderson followed up with a win at home over Marshalltown before tossing a gem against Rock Valley College (IL) on Friday night. The freshman allowed just two hits while striking out seven batters for the complete game shutout.
Madie Anderson currently owns a 13-3 overall record on the year and has struck out a team-high 107 batters while sporting a 2.55 earned run average.
The Warriors return to R.L. Hellyer Field for an ICCAC doubleheader Wednesday afternoon against Southeastern Community College. First pitch is set for 2:00 PM and can be seen on GoHillsTV.
