LEWIS NAMED NATIONAL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Ottumwa, IA – Currently riding a 15-game hitting streak, freshman Destiny Lewis (Indianola, IA/Indianola) of the Indian Hills Softball team has been named the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Softball Player of the Week.

Lewis, who was also named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, has helped the Warriors win 10 consecutive games, including eight last week alone. In the team's eight games last week, Lewis batted .621 overall while hitting seven home runs.

Lewis drove in at least one run in each of the eight games last week for a total of 20 RBI. The freshman posted five games with at least two hits and totaled 14 extra base hits.

In 19 games this season, Lewis boasts a .567 batting average which ranks 12th nationally and a 1.134 slugging percentage, the sixth best mark in the NJCAA.

The Warriors (13-6) are back in action this weekend with a four-game ICCAC series at Marshalltown Community College set to get underway on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
