Ottumwa, IA – Three members of the Indian Hills Softball team are set to move on to the next level after announcing their commitment to four-year universities.
Sophomores Gretta Hartz (Runnells, IA/Southeast Polk), Gracie Jevyak (Davenport, IA/Davenport Assumption), and Margot van eijl (Oosterhout, Netherlands/Calandlyceum) have made the next stop of their academic and athletic careers official prior to start of their final season under Indian Hills head coach Lindsey Diehl.
The trio helped lead the Warriors to 41 wins during the 2021 season along with the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI Championship. All three Warriors were named to the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) All-Academic squad last year and were members of the NJCAA Academic Team of the Year.
Gretta Hartz – University of Northern Iowa
An NJCAA All-Region XI Second-Team selection as a freshman, Hartz powered the Warriors on both sides of the ball in 2021, appearing in 51 games as a true freshman. The primary infielder collected 49 hits, including 18 extra base knocks with eight home runs. A threat on the base path, Hart swiped 21 stolen bases and scored 41 runs for the Warriors. Defensively, Hart boasted a .948 fielding percentage with 134 total chances. Hartz has been named to the ICCAC All-Academic squad three times throughout her career.
Hartz will join a program that was recently tabbed as the preseason favorite in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Panthers put together one of the best seasons in program history in 2021, winning 32 games while going 20-7 in conference action. Hartz will take the field under head coach Ryan Jacobs who has been at the helm of the Panther program for 15 seasons.
Gracie Jevyak – Iowa Wesleyan University
Jevyak enters the 2022 season after an impressive freshman campaign that saw the Davenport, IA native appear in 34 games while posting a .306 batting average and .403 on-base percentage. Jevyak connected on a pair of home runs and drove in 16 runs while scoring 18 times on the season. Jevyak is a three-time member of the ICCAC All-Academic squad.
Jevyak has committed to Iowa Wesleyan to play for head coach Mike Hampton. The Tigers are members of the NAIA and compete in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Margot van eijl – Saginaw Valley State University (MI)
A top contributor in the circle for the Warriors as a freshman, van eijl was named an NJCAA All-Region XI First-Team pick in 2021. The right-handed hurler posted a 14-2 record in 120 innings of work to go along with 98 strikeouts on the season. Van eijl won her first 10 games of the season and tossed a no-hitter against Iowa Western. van eijl is a three-time member of the ICCAC All-Academic Team.
van eijl will join a Saginaw Valley State team that won 29 games last season, including 17 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The NCAA DII program based out of University Center, MI is led by head coach Christie Ambrosi who has been at the helm of the Cardinals' program since 2020.
The 2022 Indian Hills Softball season is set to open up Feb. 25 in Houston, TX with 10 games in six days.
