WARRIORS ROUT BRYANT & STRATTON 8-1

Ottumwa, IA – Behind a hat trick from sophomore Pablo Marques (Joao Pessoa, Brazil/Colegio Meta), the Indian Hills Men's Soccer team picked up its first win of the season in convincing fashion on Friday, drubbing Bryant & Stratton College (WI) 8-1 in the Indian Hills Classic opener. The Warriors move to 1-1-1 on the year.

First-year head coach Kevin Nuss earned his first-career win at the helm of the Indian Hills Men's Soccer program as the Warriors used a barrage of goals early on to top the Bobcats at Schafer Stadium. Six different Warriors scored a goal in the win.

Marques wasted no time in putting the Warriors on the board as the sophomore buried his first goal of the season in the fourth minute of the match on an assist from Sebastian Grimaldi (Miami, FL/Ferguson). Kento Tani (Tachigi, Japan/Nihon University) doubled up the lead for Indian Hills at the 11:45 mark before Marques added his second goal of the match in the 23rd minute on a cross from Shogo Koike (Taishi, Japan/Taishi).

With a comfortable 3-0 lead, Marques put the game out of reach just before halftime as a streaking Landon Noe (Albia, IA/Albia) delivered a cross into the box that found the boot of Marques for a 4-0 lead.

Freshman Shogo Tobase (Saitama, Japan/Saiwa Gakuen) opened up the scoring in the second half by beating a pair of defenders in the box. Diego Orellana (Tegucigalpa, Honduras/Macris) tacked on another goal in the 65th minute for a 6-0 Warrior advantage.

Freshman Kosei Hayashi (Kizugawa, Japan/Kumiyama), who replaced starting keeper Matteo Scarduzio in net at halftime, made two tremendous saves on a penalty kick, but a third attempt slipped by the keeper as Bryant & Stratton got on the board in the 71st minute.

Indian Hills tacked on two more scores late in the match as Galder Gatzelu-Iturri (Bilbao, Spain/Lauro Ikastola) and Takumi Semba (Saitama, Japan Seibo Gakuen) rounded out the scoring for the Warriors.

Alongside Marques' standout performance on offense, Koike tallied three assists in the match as the returning NJCAA All-Region XI First-Team selection from a year ago paced the offense from the backline.

Indian Hills is back in action Sunday afternoon at 3:00 PM as the Warriors host John Wood Community College on the final day of the Indian Hills Classic at Schafer Stadium.
