NJCAA DI VOLLEYBALL ALL-AMERICA TEAMS
Ottumwa, IA – Sophomore Asialin Powell (Des Moines, IA/Roosevelt) of the Indian Hills Volleyball team has added another prominent accolade to her resume, earning National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Volleyball First-Team All-American honors, announced Tuesday.
The 2025 Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Player of the Year, Powell earns first-team All-American honors after a standout sophomore campaign for the Warriors. Powell is one of just three Defensive Specialist/Libero athletes to earn All-America honors across the three NJCAA teams made up of 30 individuals from around the nation. Powell also becomes the first DS/L in program history to earn NJCAA All-American honors.
"Asialin is a true leader on the court," stated head coach Lyndsey Michel. "She brings a voice every single day - the same hype whether it's practice or game day. Her court awareness is incredible, and her ability to read the offense is outstanding. She sacrifices her body on any given point—barreling herself after a short tip or chasing down long touches off the block—and making big plays."
Powell becomes the 10th individual in program history to earn NJCAA First-Team All-American honors, and the 20th All-American honoree all-time for the Warriors. Indian Hills has now earned at least one NJCAA All-American award in each of the last five seasons with a total of eight honors overall during the stretch.
Powell starred for the Indian Hills defense throughout the 2025 campaign, guiding the Warriors to another national tournament appearance. Powell, who also earned NJCAA All-Region 11 First-Team honors, was twice named the NJCAA DI Volleyball National Defensive Player of the Week and was a five-time ICCAC DI Volleyball Player of the Week.
The sophomore finished the 2025 season sixth in the nation with 654 digs and eighth overall with 5.36 digs/set. Powell's 654 digs this season rank fifth-most in a single season in school history.
Powell posted double-digit dig totals in all but two matches on the year, including 16 matches with at least 20 digs. The sophomore posted a career-high 33 digs in the NJCAA Midwest A District Tournament during a sweep of John A. Logan College (IL) on November 7.
"I've said it all season long," Michel added, "she has to be one of the top serve receivers in the nation, and I truly believe that. Her finesse, ball control, and ability to put the ball in system on even the toughest plays leave me in awe many days. Multiple times, you'd catch coach Sarah (Beeson) and I on the sideline whispering to each other, 'She's soooo good.'
"But beyond her skill, Asialin's fiery, tenacious, charismatic personality, is what sets her apart. While she can dish out some competitive smack talk with the best of them, she's always the first one to lift up a struggling teammate and making everyone feel seen and heard. Her energy, heart, a side of sass, and relentless drive leads her to earn NJCAA All-American honors."
