Ottumwa, IA – Sophomores Piper Nelson (Atkins, IA/Benton) and Asialin Powell (Des Moines, IA/Roosevelt) collected their fourth Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week honor after leading No. 15 nationally ranked Indian Hills Volleyball last week.
The duo continued to garner conference honors after a strong showing in the Warriors' lone match last week, a 3-1 road win at Jefferson College (MO). The win helped push the Warriors to 22-7 overall on the year and climb to No. 15 in this week's National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Volleyball Poll.
Powell, the reigning NJCAA DI Volleyball National Defensive Player of the Week, tallied 23 digs to anchor the defense at Jefferson. On the offensive attack, Nelson posted a team-high 16 kills on 49 attempts while adding nine digs for the Warriors.
Powell surpassed 850 career digs at Indian Hills while Nelson eclipsed 550 career kills over the past two seasons for the Warriors.
Indian Hills is set to wrap up its regular season with a home matchup against ICCAC foe and No. 19 nationally ranked Iowa Western Community College at the Hellyer Center Thursday night at 7:00 PM.
