Ottumwa, IA – Sophomores Piper Nelson (Atkins, IA/Benton) and Asialin Powell (Des Moines, IA/Roosevelt) swept the weekly Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Volleyball Athlete of the Week honors, announced Tuesday afternoon.
The sophomore duo helped lead the Warriors to a 3-0 record on the court last week, sweeping all three opponents along the way. Indian Hills, now ranked No. 17 in the nation, boasts a 21-7 overall record on the year as postseason play looms for the Warriors. Both individuals have now earned three ICCAC Athlete of the Week honors this season.
Nelson surged on the offensive front for the Warriors, tallying 29 kills while sporting a .388 hitting percentage in the three sweeps. Nelson added a pair of double-doubles on the week as well.
In a win at home vs. Hawkeye Community College on October 16, Nelson served up a career-high seven service aces to go along with 13 kills and 11 digs. Nelson closed out the week with 16 kills in a sweep over Sauk Valley Community College along with 10 digs.
The sophomore recently surpassed both the 500-career kill and 500-career dig marks over the course of her two seasons at Indian Hills.
Powell anchored the defense to reach a milestone of her own on the defensive side of the net. The sophomore tallied 57 digs over the course of the three matches to surpass 800-career digs at Indian Hills.
In a sweep at Southeastern Community College on Saturday, Powell reached 20 digs in a match for the 13th time this season.
Powell now ranks in the top-15 in the nation in both total digs (515) and digs/set (5.36) on the year.
The Warriors are back in action at Jefferson College (MO) at 5:00 PM on Tuesday night.
