WARRIORS TAME SAINTS IN FIVE-SET THRILLER

McCook, NE – No. 7 Indian Hills Volleyball rolled to its sixth consecutive victory after battling to a five-set win over Seward County Community College (KS) on the final day of the McCook Invitational at the Graff Events Center Saturday. The Warriors move to 6-3 on the year.

Indian Hills capped a perfect weekend at the McCook Invitational, going 4-0 following the Warriors' 3-2 victory over the Saints on Saturday. The Warriors knocked off the Saints by set scores of 25-18, 23-25, 22-25, 25-20, and 15-10. The win over the Saints is the second in program history for the Warriors, and first the first meeting between the two clubs in 2014.

Freshman Farah Sherif (Alexandria, Egypt/EGC) put together another valiant effort on the offensive attack as the outside hitter produced a season-best 21 kills on 38 attempts with just three errors for a .474 hitting percentage. Sherif has now posted six consecutive matches with at least a .320 hitting percentage, including four matches above the .400 clip.

Sherif added 11 digs for the Warriors to collect her third double-double of the season.

Sophomore Milica Peci (Namur, Belgium/Saint Jean Baptiste) connected on eight of her 12 attempts without an error to aid the offense for the Warriors. Peci and Sherif teamed up for six of the team's 10 kills in the final frame to push the Warriors to the come-from-behind victory.

Ana Luiza Caminha Matos (Betim, Brazil/Augusto de Lima) paced the offense with 29 assists while freshman setter Ana Silva (Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil/Major Aviador José Mariotto) chipped in 17 helpers, including eight in the final set.

Asialin Powell (Des Moines, IA/Roosevelt) starred on defense for the Warriors with a career-high 22 digs. The sophomore has now produced four matches with at least 20 digs on the year and finished the McCook Invitational averaging 17.8 digs/match.

At the net, sophomore Luana Silva Ferreira (Guimaraes, Portgual/Martins Sarmento) stood tall with six total blocks while Peci stopped four solo shots for the Warriors..

Peci continued to fill the stat sheet for the Warriors as the sophomore tallied a personal-best six service aces to go along with four aces from fellow sophomore Aleksandra Oles (Tomaszów Lubelski, Poland/1 LO Tomaszów Lubelski). As a team, the Warriors tallied a season-high 16 service aces.

The Warriors return home to the Hellyer Center to take on Carl Sandburg College (IL) at 6:00 PM on Thursday, September 4.
