NO. 9 WARRIORS TAME BEARS AT HOME

Ottumwa, IA – The No. 9 nationally ranked Indian Hills Volleyball squad went the distance on Tuesday night, securing a five-set victory over visiting Des Moines Area Community College at the Hellyer Center. The Warriors move to 4-1 overall on the year.

For the fourth consecutive match, the Warriors went five sets. After taking the opening two frames from the Bears, 25-15 and 25-12, the Warriors dropped two straight close battles, 26-24, and 25-23. The Warriors prevailed in the final set, outlasting the Bears for their sixth straight win over DMACC.

Sophomore All-American Sara Van Gisteren (Leuth, Netherlands/oung Talent Academy ROC Nijmegen) continued her torrid pace to start the year. The outside hitter tallied a game-high 21 kills on 36 attempts for a .361 hitting percentage. Freshman Piper Nelson (Atkins, IA/Benton) and Joana Pawlik (Lublin, Poland/Nauczycieli Tajnego Nauczania) joined Van Gisteren in double-digits with 14 and 13 kills, respectively. Nelson collected her second consecutive double-double with 10 digs.

Sophomore Daniela De Los Santos Castillo (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Colegio los Clavelines) once again put together an all-around performance for the Warriors. Castillo filled the stat sheet with six kills on 14 attempts to go along with a team-high four total blocks, including three solo stops, and four digs.

Defensively, Sabrina Nogueira Da Silva (São Paulo, Brazil/Colégio Campos Salles) posted a team-high 22 digs along with a pair of service aces. Sophomore Ana Carolina Westerich (Blumenau, Brazil/Colégio Energia) posted 61 assists, the second-most in her two-year career at Indian Hills.

The Warriors used an impressive start to the night, posting back-to-back team hitting percentages of .483 and .538 in the first two frames before falling behind the Bears over the next two sets. The Warriors ran past the Bears in the final frame with Da Silva finishing off the visitors with an ace for the final point of the night.

Indian Hills returns to action Wednesday night with a trip to Kirkwood Community College. Action gets underway from Cedar Rapids at 6:00 PM.
