Sophomore Night Rout for IHCC

Ottumwa -- On a night when they honored their nine sophomores before the match, Indian Hills made quick work of outmanned Southeastern CC, drubbing the Blackhawks in three straight sets, 25-7, 25-7 and 25-12.

The win raises the season record for the No. 6 rated Warriors to 29-3 and that's the record they will take into action this weekend in the District D tournament hosted by Iowa Western.

Against SCC, IHCC coach Lyndsey Michel was able to play 11 players and nine of them played in all three sets. Tamara Merseli topped the Warriors with 15 kills. Lauren Streets had nine kills and a team-best 12 digs as Indian Hills had no trouble with the Blackhawks from the outset of the match.

Indian Hills now heads into the six-team district tourney that begins on Friday. The Warriors' first opponent will be Lake Land (Ill.) College at 3:30 Friday afternoon. The winner of that match takes on Kaskaskia at 6:00 that evening. The teams in the upper half of the bracket are top-seeded Iowa Western, John A. Logan and Marshalltown. The district champ will be crowned on Sunday.
