Ottumwa -- Playing its final home match before a series of games on the road, the Indian Hills Warriors took care of visiting Iowa Central in straight sets on Tuesday night at the Tom Arnold Net Center, beating the Tritons by scores of 25-12, 25-18 and 25-11.
The result leaves the Warriors' season record at 12-2.
Indian Hills was playing for the first time since toppling third-ranked Iowa Western last Wednesday and showed no ill effects from the six-day layoff, jumping out to a quick 15-5 lead in the opening set. Freshman Bailey Darnall (pictured above) served seven straight points in a rally to get to the ten-point lead.
The second set was the tightest of the night with the score tied on eight occasions. IHCC broke away late to take the set, then had an easier time in the third set.
Indian Hills had 41 kills for the match, with Tamara Merseli, who earlier in the day was named the ICCAC DI Volleyball Athlete of the Week, Lauren Streets and Kameo Pope leading the way at the net with eight kills each. Merseli had a team-high 14 digs and Yanjiao Zhao contributed nine.
The Warriors will play at Southwestern this Friday night, at Marshalltown the following Tuesday, and then will go to Tyler, Texas for four matches Oct. 2-3. The next home match will be Oct. 7 against the Grand View JV.
