Union, Mo. - The Indian Hills volleyball team capped a busy week with wins in all four matches they played in a tournament hosted by East Central (Mo.) College on Friday and Saturday. The Warriors defeated Lewis & Clark (25-11, 25-16, 25-15) and SW Illinois (23-25, 25-18, 25-13, 25-22) Friday, then took care of Mineral Area (25-22, 13-25, 26-24, 25-22) and East Central (25-23, 25-21, 25-19) the following day.
Indian Hills had won three matches earlier in the week and the sweep at East Central moved their season record to 22-1.
Indian Hills dropped only one set each day, but the one they lost to Mineral Area on Saturday was followed by a tense third set in which the Warriors trailed for much of the set. They edged MAC 26-24 in that set and then closed out the match with another close decision in the final set, winning 25-22.
They also had a hard time disposing of East Central in the opening set of the next match, taking a 25-23 final, the fourth time during the second day they won a set by two or three points.
For the tourney, Kameo Pope led the Warriors with 49 kills, one more than Tamara Merseli. Pope also led in blocks with 21. Lauren Streets was the digs leader with 49; Merseli had 45.
Merseli (15), Pope (13) and Streets (11) all had double-digit kills totals against Mineral Area with Sarah Ryder contributing 19 digs and Merseli and Streets 16 apiece in that match.
Iowa Western, ranked 2nd in the latest NJCAA poll and the only team to win a match from Indian Hills this year, will visit the Tom Arnold Net Center for "Sophomore Night" on Wednesday night at 7:00 to battle 14th-ranked Indian Hills.
