Warriors Complete Sweep of MS-WP

Ottumwa -- The Indian Hills volleyball team, ranked 14th in the latest NJCAA poll, finished off a season sweep of Missouri State-West Plains with a 3-0 win at the Net Center on Monday night.

The Warriors, who took five sets to defeat the Grizzlies on the road earlier in the season, didn't have as much trouble this time, winning in straight sets, 25-20, 28-26 and 25-16. The result leaves the Warriors with a season record of 16-1.

The pivotal set was the second as the Grizzlies eyed a chance to even the match. The visitors used a late 7-1 run to go on top 23-22. Indian Hills tied the score at 23-all and had two set points only to see MS-WP recover to take a 26-25 lead and garner a set point of their own. But the Warriors finished off the set by scoring the final three points and, then, notched the first three points of the third set and rolled to the victory.

Lauren Streets led the IHCC attack with 10 kills. Tamara Merseli and Kameo Pope each had nine and Nora Buvarp eight. Sarah Ryder was the digs leader with 18 and Pope had six blocks and Buvarp five.

Setter Katie Soddy had 39 assists running the IHCC offense.

Indian Hills will play twice on Wednesday night, hosting the Cornell College JV at 4:30 and the Grand View JV at around 7:00 in a triangular at the Net Center. After Wednesday, the Warriors have only one home match -- an Oct. 8 date with Iowa Western.
