Warriors Start Fast, But Lose First

Council Bluffs, Ia -- If Indian Hills wanted to get the attention of the top-ranked Iowa Western Reivers on Wednesday night, they certainly did that after the opening set of the match in Kanesville Arena. IHCC grabbed the early momentum, but couldn't sustain it as Iowa Western, elevated to the top spot in the national rankings earlier in the day, came back to win the next three sets and take the match 3-1.

The win puts IWCC at 12-0 and leaves Indian Hills with a 13-1 record. And it definitely heightens the interest for the Reivers' visit to Indian Hills for the return encounter on Oct. 7

The Warriors scored the first point of the night and led from start to finish in the opening set, winning 25-20, helped along by four kills by freshman Lauren Streets.

But the Reivers were able to regroup and win the next three sets, 25-16, 26-24 and 25-20.

With the match tied at one set apiece, the pivotal third set went down to the wire. IHCC fought off three set points to tie the score at 24-all, but consecutive kills gave IWCC the win.

The Reivers then got away to a 10-5 lead in the fourth set and kept that margin to the end.

Kameo Pope and Streets each had 11 kills to lead IHCC in that category. Pope and Mirela Vasconcelos had four blocks and Sarah Ryder had a team-high 13 digs.

Indian Hills begins a stretch of four straight home dates when the Warriors take on Iowa Lakes this Saturday afternoon at 2:00 at the Net Center.
