Warriors Roll at Highland

Highland, Kans. -- The unbeaten Indian Hills volleyball team rolled into the Highland CC weekend tournament and left with their perfect season record intact after winning all four matches they played. Three of the contests were 3-0 sweeps for IHCC, and they defeated Kansas City Kansas CC 3-1, losing the first set 27-25 before winning the next three sets.

The latest in a string of impressive performances to start the season for the Warriors left them with a 10-0 record. They have won 30 of the 35 sets they have played.

Opening their stay in Highland on Friday, Indian Hills knocked off MCC-Longview 25-12, 25-19 and 25-19. They followed that up with a 25-17, 25-19, 25-15 sweep of the host school. Saturday's action included the 3-1 victory against Kansas City Kansas. The scores in the final three sets were 25-23, 25-22 and 25-11. The final match of the weekend was a 25-19, 25-23, 25-13 win against Coffeyville (Kans.) CC.

The Warriors used nine aces, from six different players, and nine kills by Kameo Pope to knock off MCC-Longview. Pope's strong net play also included a team-high nine blocks and Rachel Holsteen led with eight digs.

Sophomore setter Katie Soddy had another solid showing with 148 assists for the tourney, an average of 37.0 per set.

The statistical leaders against Highland were Pope with nine kills and five blocks and Tamara Merseli with 12 digs, one more than Sarah Ryder.

Pope also topped the team in kills and blocks in the two matches on Saturday with nine and five against Kansas City Kansas and 14 and five against Coffeyville. Ryder had 18 digs and 10 digs in those two wins.

Indian Hills will play only its second home match of the season on Tuesday night, hosting Marshalltown CC at the Net Center at 7:00.
