Ottumwa -- Playing at home for the first time in the young season, the Indian Hills volleyball team defeated Southwestern CC in three sets on Tuesday night at the Net Center. The Warriors avenged a pair of losses last season to SWCC and improved their record to 5-0.
Led by 10 combined kills by freshmen Kameo Pope and Lauren Streets the Warriors raced away to a 25-14 win in the opening set. They finished off the sweep with 25-14 and 25-16 advantages in the next two sets.
After an early 5-5 tie, IHCC broke away in the second set to win handily. The Warriors used 10 blocks in the next set to finish the 3-0 win.
"I'm excited about the start we've had," said IHCC coach Lyndsey Lyon-Michel. "I'm anxious to see how good this team can be."
Tamara Merseli led the Warriors attack with 10 kills. Pope and Jessica Eekhoff had 7 each. Pope also had a team-high 5 blocks and Sarah Ryder and Streets picked up 14 digs apiece.
The Warriors are idle until traveling to Missouri for a match with Missouri State-West Plains on Sept. 3.
