Merseli, Soddy Named All-Region

Ottumwa -- The Indian Hills volleyball team placed two players on the All-Region teams. Freshman Tamara Merseli was named to the Region 11 first team and sophomore Katie Soddy was a second-team choice.

Merseli (Belgrade, Serbia) led the Warriors in kills (509), kills per set (3.80), service aces (37) and digs (439) as one of the key performers on the 2014 IHCC squad.

Soddy (Milton, Wis.) was the team's regular setter and piled up over 1,400 assists for the season, an average of just over 11 per set.

Increasing its win total from 19 to 32 this year and advancing to the championship match of the Super Regional showed the IHCC volleyball program is on solid footing. In posting a 32-7 record, the Warriors got key contributions from a talented freshman class and that provides a lot of optimism heading into next year.

Merseli was joined by other freshmen like Kameo Pope, Lauren Streets, Nora Buvarp, Jessica Eekhoff and Sarah Ryder, who were all among the team's statistical leaders.

Indian Hills was ranked in the top 20 nationally the entire year, peaking at No. 12 late in the regular season.
