Ottumwa -- After having Indian Hills sweep them on their home court last month, Iowa Central returned the favor on Tuesday night, defeating the Warriors in three sets, 25-16, 25-22 and 25-22. It was a night when the IHCC program honored the four sophomores on this year's team -- Peyton Crosser, Shelby Lauterbach, Kaylee Scholten and Kassidy Guihan -- before the match, but the Tritons did most of the celebrating after that.
Iowa Central jumped on the Warriors early, getting off to a quick start in the first set and winning by nine points. The visitors did the same in the second set, grabbing a 12-5 lead. After a side-out, Indian Hills' Scholten served seven straight points as the Warriors went on top 13-12. But IHCC couldn't maintain the momentum and Iowa Central came back to take the set.
The third set was close throughout, with late ties at 17, 19 and 21. A hitting error by Indian Hills allowed Iowa Central to take a one-point lead and they scored three of the final four points to secure the sweep.
Scholten had three service aces for the Warriors; Crosser had nine kills and Lauterbach eight; and Guihan led the team in digs as the sophomores performed well in the final home match of the season.
Indian Hills will play at Iowa Lakes on Friday, the first of three straight road matches to end the regular season.
