12 INDIVIDUALS EARN ALL-REGION XI HONORS

 

Ottumwa, IA – 12 individuals were recognized on the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Women's Outdoor Track & Field All-Region XI team, announced by the conference office on Friday. The Warriors earned nine awards in total while four individuals collected multiple honors for their performance at the NJCAA Region XI DI Outdoor Championship.

The reigning NJCAA and Region XI Indoor Track & Field National Champion in the 800-meter run, Aliyah Simmons (Miami, FL/North Miami) took home first-team All-Region XI honors on the outdoor All-Region squad after winning the 800m in Council Bluffs. Simmons, the Indian Hills Student-Athlete of the Year, won the outdoor event with a time of 2:13.80.

Also taking home first-place All-Region honors was the women's 4x400-meter relay squad. Simmons, Aimaya Drummond (San Antonio, TX/San Antonio Brennan), Temira Goods (Des Moines, IA/Des Moines Hoover), and Kahliyah Anderson (Texarkana, TX/Texas) led the Warriors to a school record and first-place finish at the Region XI outdoor meet with a time of 3:52.15. The quartet won the meet by more than 21 seconds.

Anderson doubled up on the postseason honors after earning second-team All-Region XI recognition in the women's 200-meter dash. Anderson placed second overall at the Region XI outdoor meet with a time of 24.63.

Drummond earned a second All-Region XI selection after placing third overall in the women's 400-meter dash. Drummond earned Honorable Mention honors after finishing with a school record time of 56.13.

Siby Yao (Leesburg, VA/Riverside), who was an NJCAA Indoor Track & Field All-American, took home a pair of All-Region selections. Yao earned Honorable Mention honors in the long jump and triple jump events for the Warriors. Haleigh Hadley (Gilbert, IA/Gilbert) joined Yao on the All-Region jumps team after earning Honorable Mention status in the high jump event.

Kayla McCray (Miami, FL/North Miami) was named to the All-Region XI Second-Team after placing second overall in the women's 200-meter dash with a time of 11.85.

The women's 4x800-meter relay squad, consisting of Julie Granahan (Corydon, IA/Wayne County), Isabelle Mellin (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa), Kaylen Pryor (Chicago, IL/South Shore International Prep), and Lizeth Flores (Harvard, IL/Harvard) placed second overall at the outdoor championships to earn second-team All-Region XI honors.

Monse Guerrero (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa) became an All-Region honoree for the Warriors after placing third overall in the women's 10,000-meter event at the Region championship.

The Warriors will now head to the NJCAA DI Outdoor Track and Field National Championship in Hutchinson, KS May 19-21.
