SIMMONS LANDS ANOTHER WEEKLY HONOR

SIMMONS LANDS ANOTHER WEEKLY HONOR

In a record-breaking, national qualifying season, Aliyah Simmons (Miami, FL/North Miami) continued to rack up the honors as the sophomore has been chosen by the Iowa Community College Athletic Association (ICCAC) as the DI Women's Track & Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this season.

The honor comes after a stellar performance at the 7th Annual Gorilla Class in Pittsburgh, KS. Simmons broke her own school record in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:11.10, besting her previous school record by over one second to finish in third place. Simmons was also the second leg in the 4x400-meter relay that placed fifth overall with a time of 3:48.68. The mark broke the previous school record which Simmons helped set earlier in the season.

Simmons, who has also been named the ICCAC Athlete of the Week and the National Athlete of the Week this year, now owns nine top-five finishes in the five meets she has competed in this season. Simmons owns the top mark in the nation in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:32.42 and owns the all-conditions best time in the 800-meter run with a time o 2:11.10.

The Warrior sophomore looks to continue her high-level of performance at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI Indoor Championship on Feb. 18-19 in Storm Lake, IA. Simmons will then turn her attention to the NJCAA Indoor National Championship in Pittsburgh, KS where she has already qualified to compete in the 800-meter, 600-meter, and 4x400-meter relay events.
