Ottumwa, IA – The Indian Hills Women's Track & Field team earned its highest ranking in school history as the Warriors checked in at No. 4 in the first United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Indoor National Rating Index of the 2022 season.
Through four events this year, the Warriors have put together eight marks that rank in the top-10 in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Sophomore Aliyah Simmons (Miami, FL/North Miami) holds the No. 1 spot in a pair of events – the 600m and the 800m. Khaliyah Anderson (Texarkana, TX/Texas) ranks No. 1 in the 400m at 55.94 seconds. The tandem of Anderson and Simmons is a part of the women's 4x400 relay squad that ranks second nationally.
Head coach Brent Ewing discussed the team's early season success as it translated to the team's highest national ranking in school history.
"We have All-American caliber talent in events that we've never had before including some individuals that have a legitimate shot at winning a national title. We have several sophomores who have helped set the tone for this program. It is the hardest working women's squad we've had since I've been here. Attention to detail and the attitude and energy that we bring to practice over this next month will go a long ways in determining just how great this group will be."
The Warriors return to action at the Mark Schuck Open Jan. 28-29 in Mankato, MN.
