Ottumwa, IA – Sophomore Aliyah Simmons (Miami, FL/North Miami) of the Indian Hills Women's Track & Field team added another accolade to her resume this week after earning National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Athlete of the Week honors.
Simmons, who was also recognized as the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Athlete of the Week, becomes the third Warrior female to earn national honors this year. Simmons highlighted an impressive day for the Warriors at the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City over the weekend with a school record in the women's 600-meter event. Simmons' time of 1:32.42 was the top time at the meet and currently ranks as the No. 1 mark in the nation.
Simmons currently leads the entire NJCAA in both the 600-meter and 800-meter events this year and is a member of the women's 4x400 relay squad who also holds the top time in the NJCAA.
Along with the three NJCAA leading marks and the two Athlete of the Week honors, Simmons was also recognized as the Indian Hills December Female Student-Athlete of the Month.
