Ottumwa, IA – Aliyah Simmons' (Miami, FL/North Miami) impressive sophomore campaign continued for Indian Hills Women's Track & Field this week after earning Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Athlete of the Week recognition.
Simmons and the Warriors competed at the Hawkeye Invitational where the middle-distance athlete posted a blistering time of 1:32.42 in the 600-meter dash to win the event among four-year competitors. Simmons' mark is now the top time in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). The sophomore also leads the nation in the 800-meter event as well.
Along with the stellar individual effort at the Hawkeye Invite, Simmons was a member of the 4x400 relay team that placed fourth overall, but just one second off the school record. The quartet's time of 3:50.79 is currently the top time in the NJCAA.
Simmons and the Warriors return to action at the Iowa State Open in Ames, IA on Saturday.
