Council Bluffs, Iowa-- The women's track and field team competed at the 2018 Region XI Championships Friday, May 4th though Saturday, May 5th. The meet was hosted by Iowa Western Community College and was the final meet leading up to the 2018 NJCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships.
Shalandra Shilling lead the women, defending her indoor region tite in the high jump. Shilling won the event by over five inches, jumping 1.58m. This was a new collegiate best mark for the Oskaloosa, Iowa native. Tyarra English-Paulson pulled off a grueling 400m/400m hurdle double. The four time national qualifier crossed the line in 59.83 to take fourth place in the 400m. Less than an hour later, English-Paulson toed the lined once again in the 400m hurdles. She took third in the event (1:07.99), garerning All-Region honors. Peyton Coffin also scored valuable points for the women, placing fifth in the 400m (59.93) and seventh in the 200m (26.66).
Ashlyn Elmore stepped up in the women's 800m, placing fifth with a time of 2:45.50. Matana Munday had one of her best performances of the year, taking fourth in the discus (35.68m) and sixth in the shot put (9.59m).
The women's track and field team will now shift their focus to the 2018 NJCAA Outdoor National Track & Field Meet May 17-19th in El Dorado, Kansas hosted by Butler Community College. Tyarra English-Paulson is the lone female comepeting for the Warriors. She is currently ranked seventh in the country in the 400m hurdles.
