Centerville, IA – Freshman Jahkari Clark (Des Moines, IA/West Des Moines Valley) of the No. 1 nationally ranked Indian Hills Men's Wrestling squad took home top honors at the Millikin Open over the weekend. For his efforts, Clark has been named this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week.
Clark made a splash at the Millikin Open in Decatur, IL over the weekend, taking home a first-place finish in the 149lb bracket by going 5-0. All five wins came against four-year university wrestlers, outscoring his opponents 76-20 on the day.
Clark opened his day with a 19-6 major in the opening round before picking up a 19-4 tech fall in 4:33 to advance to the third round. Clark continue to cruise, punching his ticket to the semifinals with a 20-4 tech fall.
The freshman made a statement in the semifinal round, knocking off NAIA No. 5 nationally ranked Nik Yancey of Campbellsville University (KY) with a thrilling 8-5 sudden victory win to secure a spot in the championship bout.
Clark rolled through the title match vs. Ryan Hinger of Elmhurst University (IL), jumping out to a 10-1 advantage before scoring a fall in just 2:33 of action.
Clark has now secured 12 victories on the year, including 10 bonus point victories.
Indian Hills returns to action Wednesday night with an ICCAC dual at Ellsworth Community College. Action from Dittmer Gymnasium gets underway at 7:00 PM. Fans can watch all the action live: Indian Hills vs. Ellsworth
