FOREST, MARQUEZ SWEEP ICCAC WRESTLING HONORS

Centerville, IA – The Indian Hills Men's Wrestling squads secured a pair of Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week honors after a strong showing at the Art Kraft Memorial Tournament on Saturday. Freshmen Andrew Marquez (Rock Island, IL/Rock Island) and Deontae Forest (Godfrey, IL/Alton) have been recognized for their efforts.

The duo helped lead the Warriors in River Grove, IL at the annual clash of heavyweight junior college and four-year programs. Both Marquez and Forrest were victorious in their respective weight classes, with Forest capturing the title at 133lbs and Marquez at 197lbs.

Forest put together his most impressive showing of his collegiate career after going 5-0 to run through the 133lb bracket. Forrest earned back-to-back falls to open the day before securing a 9-5 decision in the quarterfinal round over the No. 8 ranked individual in the nation. Forrest advanced to the championship bout where he scored a 7-3 decision over Anthony Bernardo of McKendree University.

Marquez, the No. 2 ranked wrestler in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Men's Wrestling polls took home top honors at 197lbs with a 3-0 record. Marquez cruised to the finals with an 18-3 tech fall in the opening bout followed by a 4-0 decision in the semifinals. Taking on the No. 1 ranked wrestler in the nation at 197lbs, and the No. 4 ranked pound-for-pound individual in Ghee Rachal of tournament host Triton College (IL), Marquez landed a 10-5 decision to claim the top spot on the podium.

As a program, the Warriors have now captured four consecutive ICCAC Men's Wrestling Athlete of the Week honors.

The Warriors return to action January 15 at the Multi-Purpose Building in Centerville with an Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) clash vs. Iowa Central Community College as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.
