Ottumwa, IA – For the seventh time this season, freshman Joska Nelis (Haarlem, Netherlands/Lyceum Sancta Maria) of the Indian Hills Women's Golf team has been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Women's Golf Athlete of the Week, announced Tuesday afternoon.
Nelis' breakout freshman campaign continued to reach new heights with another first-place finish last week for the Warriors. Nelis placed atop the leaderboard at the Park Spring Classic in Parkville, MO for the Warriors, tying for the individual lead with a 23-over, 233. Nelis posted bookend rounds of 77, paired with a second round score of 79 for her lowest three-round score of the year.
Nelis' performance helped lead the Warriors to a dramatic come-from-behind team victory for the program's third title of the year. Trailing by seven strokes entering the final day of competition, the Warriors fired a 44-over on the final day, 14 strokes ahead of runner-up and tournament host Park College (MO).
Ranked No. 34 in the nation, Nelis led all players in the 34-player field with 32 total pars in the event as the freshman's consistent approach paid off on the final day of competition. Nelis' 7-over on the final 18 holes proved to be the lowest total of the final round.
Nelis has now produced seven ICCAC Athlete of the Week honors, including back-to-back awards and five times in the last six weeks of competition.
