Des Moines, IA – The Indian Hills Men's and Women's Track & Field squads sent its throws group to compete in a pair of events in Des Moines, taking part in both the Drake Relays and the Kip Janvrin Open.
The Warriors were led by a dominant effort from freshman Terrance Powe Jr. (Niceville, FL/Niceville) who captured first-place in the men's discus throw with a mark of 49.81, a new personal-best performance. Powe Jr. outlasted the field of 51 athletes, including multiple junior college competitors by posting the fifth-best mark in school history.
Sophomores Tate Joens (Cedar Rapids, IA/Cedar Rapids Prairie), Michael Etuma (Iowa City, IA/Iowa City), and Kaden Banks (Onalaska, WI/Holmen) took on the Drake Relays, representing the Warriors in the shot put, hammer, and discus events. Joens brought home a seventh-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 16.78 meters while placing 11th overall in the hammer with a mark of 57.26 meters.
Banks placed seventh overall in the discus with a toss of 53.23 meters while also placing 16th in the shot put.
Along with Powe Jr.'s performance in the discus at the Kip Janvrin Open, the freshman also placed ninth overall in the men's hammer throw. Fellow freshman Alec Rachford (Eldon, IA/Cardinal) placed 11th overall in the Kip Janvrin Open men's shot put event with a mark of 13.79, a new personal-best mark.
On the women's side, freshman Cynthia Albert (Eldon, IA/Cardinal) placed 14th overall in the hammer throw at Kip Janvrin with a mark of 38.27 meters.
The Warriors will now turn their attention to the upcoming National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 11 Outdoor Championships May 3-4 in Council Bluffs, IA.
