GALVEZ SHINES, WARRIORS SET RECORDS AT IOWA STATE

Ames, IA – Led by three school record performances, the No. 1 nationally ranked Indian Hills Men's Track & Field squad made a statement at the Iowa State Classic on Saturday.

Raynier Galvez (Paterson, NJ/Passaic County) continued to re-write the record books in his rookie campaign as the freshman eclipsed one of the most coveted records at Indian Hills. Competing in the men's 800-meter run, Galvez posted a time of 1:48.34, surpassing former national champion Rivaldo Marshall's mark by just 0.12 seconds. Galvez, who also owns the school record in the 600-yard run, placed third overall behind a pair of runners from Iowa State University.

Galvez's time not only cemented himself atop the Indian Hills record book, but the freshman's time now stands as the No. 3 all-time, all-conditions mark in National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) history. As a program, the Warriors now boast the third, fourth, and fifth fastest all-time marks in NJCAA history.

Sophomore Cayde de Waal (Brakpan, South Africa/Hoërskool Oosterlig) added another school record performance to his list of accolades in his debut season with the Warriors. Competing in men's mile, de Waal posted a time of 4:05.16, including a final 300m stretch in 44.04 seconds to set a new Indian Hills mark. de Waal's mark currently ranks second in the nation this year.

Through eight events on the year, de Waal has now posted seven personal-best performances. de Waal now owns the school record in the mile and 3,000-meter run, and ranks sixth in school history in the 1,000-meter run.

Returning All-American and national runner-up Tate Joens (Cedar Rapids, IA/Cedar Rapids Prairie) regained the school record in the men's shot put with an impressive throw of 17.48m. Joens' mark was good enough for a first-place finish, outlasting opponents from the University of Iowa, Drake University, and South Dakota State University.

Between the indoor and outdoor seasons over the last two years, Joens now owns three school records in throws events for the Warriors.

Additionally in the throws events at the Iowa State Classic, sophomore Michael Etuma (Iowa City, IA/Iowa City) collected a fifth-place showing in the weight throw while Kaden Banks (Onalaska, WI/Holmen) earned a sixth-place finish in the shot put invitational with a mark of 16.87m.

The Warriors posted four of the top-seven marks in the men's 200m dash on Saturday, led by freshman Justin Gray's (Memphis, TN/Southwind) third-place finish with a mark of 21.95. Uriah Allen (Waukee, IA/Waukee), Michael Blank (Cedar Rapids, IA/Cedar Rapids Washington), and Michael Mcgee (Brandon, FL/Bloomingdale) placed fifth, sixth, and seventh, respectively in the event.

The Warriors are back in action February 14-15 at the 10th Annual Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg, KS.
