GALVEZ NAMED USTFCCA NATIONAL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Ottumwa, IA – Freshman Raynier Galvez (Paterson, NJ/Passaic County) of the Indian Hills Men's Track & Field team opened his collegiate career in impressive fashion on Saturday at the Washburn Alumni Invite. For his efforts, Galvez has been named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week.

Galvez made headlines over the weekend by running away with the men's 600-yard run with a record-breaking performance. In his collegiate debut, Galvez ran the seventh-fastest 600y time in National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Men's Track & Field history with a time of 1:09.58. Galvez took home top honors in the event, finishing nearly four seconds ahead of the field.

Galvez closed out the day by leading the Warriors to the 4x400-meter relay title with a time of 3:13.69. Galvez posted a blistering split of 46.65 to lead the charge.

As a program, the Warriors have now received 11 USTFCCCA National Indoor Athlete of the Week honors dating back to the 2017 season, including eight in the past three years alone.

The Warriors close out the 2024 calendar year next weekend with the two-day Iowa State Holiday Invite in Ames, IA on Friday and Saturday.
