Hutchinson, KS – The Indian Hills Track & Field squads are set for the 2022 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Outdoor Track & Field National Championship, set to get underway Thursday afternoon at Gowans Stadium.

LOOKING TO DOUBLE UP
A number of individuals and relay squads will look to repeat as NJCAA All-Americans after earning the honors during the indoor season. Aliyah Simmons will set her sights on becoming the first-ever two-time national champion for the program after winning the 800m indoor title. Simmons, who will also compete in the women's 4x400m relay, is seeded second in the 800m event. The sophomore is coming off a NJCAA Region XI Outdoor Championship in the event to add to a length resume throughout the 2021-22 season.
Nine Warriors on the men's side bring All-American honors from the indoor season and will look to double their prestigious honors with a spot on the outdoor podium. Both Aurel Tchanbi (200m) and Rivaldo Marshall (800m) finished as runners-up in their respective events during the indoor national championship and have their sights set on improving during the outdoor event.
MEN'S NOTES
The Warrior men get underway at 5:15 PM Thursday night with the finals of the 4x800-meter relay. Jerry Harper, Roneldo Rock, Keegan Simms, and Nick O'Connor will be the first of five running events on Thursday.
Indian Hills placed ninth overall at the 2021 NJCAA Outdoor National Championship in Pittsburg, KS and placed 10th overall at the indoor national championships this past February. In total, 14 members of the men's team will compete for a national title and All-American honors during the three-day outdoor event.
Justin Walden, the 2022 NJCAA Region XI Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year and Tchanbi, the 2022 USTFCCCA Midwest Region Track Athlete of the Year, will compete in the 4x100-meter relay on Thursday and the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash prelims on Friday with a shot at the finals on Saturday.
Isaac Bryant and Chris Metz will both compete in the 10,000-meter run on Thursday and the 5,000-meter run on Saturday.
WOMEN'S NOTES
Siby Yao opens up the weekend for the Warriors wit hthe women's long jump on Thursday. Yao, who will also compete in the triple jump on Saturday, enters with the fifth-best seed in the long jump field. Yao will also take part in the women's 4x100m relay on Thursday night with Janyla Hoskins, Kayla McCray, and Kahliyah Anderson.
The Warriors are coming off a 10th place finish during the indoor season and placed 19th overall at the 2021 outdoor national championships. Indian Hills placed third overall at the outdoor region championships May 7-8 and placed 12 individuals on the all-region squad.
Keep an eye on a number of individuals who bring record-breaking performances with them to Gowans Stadium. Monse Guerrero-Chapula has continued to progress in the women's 10,000-meter run. Aimaya Drummond will compete in the 400-meter dash as well as the 4x400-meter relay.
Kahliyah Anderson, Kayla McCray, and Janyla Hoskins look to make noise in the sprints events while Matayah Naylor looks to break her own school record in the 100-meter hurdles.
