Ottumwa, IA – 13 members of the Indian Hills Men's Track & Field squad earned postseason recognition for exceptional performances at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI Indoor Championship over the weekend.
Four individuals and two relay squads earned NJCAA All-Region XI First-Team honors. In total, six individuals earned multiple all-region nods after finishing within the top-three of their respective events.
Sophomore Aurel Tchanbi (Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire/College Heleis) was awarded the ICCAC Men's Track Athlete of the Year award. To read more, visit: TCHANBI NAMED TRACK ATHLETE OF THE YEAR.
Tchanbi collected two first-team All-Region honors after winning the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash.
Rivaldo Marshall (Kingston, Jamaica/Calabar) earned first-team All-Region honors after winning the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.73. Marshall, who currently holds the third-fastest time in the nation this year, won the event by nearly five seconds to earn first-team accolades.
Sophomore Nick O'Connor (Tiffin, IA/Clear Creek Amana) won the men's mile event by a narrow margin of 0.17 seconds to take home first-team All-Region honors. O'Connor also helped guide the men's Distance Medley Relay with a time of 10:17.85, a school record, to earn first-place honors.
Joining O'Connor on the first-place team to earn first-team All-Region recognition was Brady Millikin (Hedrick, IA/Pekin), Sydney Peal (Crofton, MD/Bullis), and Jerry Harper (Rantoul, IL/Rantoul High School).
Peal was also an integral part of the first-team All-Region men's 4x400-meter relay squad who placed first overall at the indoor championships. Peal was joined by Justin Walden (Miami, FL/North Miami), Woyn Chatman (Little Rock, AR/Little Rock Central), and Kendrick Winfield (Louisville, KY/Louisville Male) to finish with a time of 3:17.87.
Isiah Thomas (Milwaukee, WI/Destiny) earned a pair of postseason honors after finishing second overall in the men's 60-meter dash behind teammate Tchanbi. Thomas crossed the finish line at 6.82. Thomas received honorable mention honors in the men's 200-meter dash with a time of 21.79.
As a team, the Warriors swept all three postseason honors in the men's 200-meter dash as sophomore Damoy Allen (Utica, NY/Utica Proctor) placed second overall with a time of 21.65.
Walden was named to the second-team All-Region squad in the men's 400-meter dash with a time of 49.88, just ahead of teammate Chatman who earned Honorable Mention status with a time of 49.89.
Dorian Craven (Dallas, TX/Duncanville) earned Honorable Mention honors in the men's 600-meter run with a time of 1:22.58. Keegan Simms (Miami, FL/Miami Southridge) crossed the finish line in 2:00.20 in the men's 800-meter run to earn Honorable Mention honors.
Each of the individuals who earned postseason honors will now head to the NJCAA Indoor National Championships March 4-5 in Pittsburg, KS at the Robert W. Plaster Center.
