Ottumwa, IA – Aurel Tchanbi (Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire / College Heleis) has been named this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Association (ICCAC) Male Track & Field Athlete of the Week. Tchanbi had a successful weekend at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI Indoor Championships in Storm Lake, IA.
The sophomore returned to Ottumwa with first-place finishes in both the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash, coming across the line with times of 6.74 and 21.52, respectively. Tchanbi is now tied for the eighth-fastest time in the 60-meter dash in the NJCAA, as well as the second-fastest time in the 200-meter dash.
Tchanbi has now accomplished the rare feat of claiming two individual titles in back-to-back years. The sophomore also earned NJCAA Region XI Indoor Championships in the same two events as a freshman. Tchanbi has now earned a pair of ICCAC Athlete of the Week honors as the Warriors as a whole have earned weekly conference honors in each of the last six weeks.
As a team, the No. 3 nationally ranked Warriors placed third overall at the NJCAA Region XI Indoor Championship in large part due to Tchanbi's impressive victories. Indian Hills will now head to the NJCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships March 4-5 in Pittsburg, KS.
