NO. 2 WARRIORS DROP LAKERS, REMAIN UNBEATEN

Ottumwa, IA – No. 2 Indian Hills Men's Soccer rolled to a 4-1 victory over Iowa Lakes Community College at home on Wednesday afternoon. The Warriors move to 4-0-1 on the year.

Freshman Enzo de Almeida (Foz do Iguacu, Brazil/Colegio Silva Batista) tallied a pair of goals in the victory to pace the Warrior offense. As a team, Indian Hills outshot the Lakers 22-2 on the day to to remain unbeaten in its last four matchups with the Lakers, ranked No. 4 in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DII Men's Soccer Poll.

The Warriors controlled the tempo of the match for a majority of the day as the Lakers saw two players sent off with red cards. A pair of first half goals propelled the Warriors to an early advantage before doubling the lead midway through the second stanza. A late penalty kick goal from the Lakers proved to be too little too late as Indian Hills cruised to the cross-division victory.

de Almeida opened up the scoring in the 23rd minute with a remarkable strike to the upper-left corner of the net on an assist from Leo Jaukovic (London, England/Fulham Boys School) and Carlos Noboa (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Centro Educativo Miraflores). Sophomore Joe Redmond (Basingstoke, England/Basingstoke Academy) pushed the lead to 2-0 after heading home a cross from freshman Sakutaro Matsuura (Aichi, Japan/Kaishu Gakuen JSC) at the 37:11 mark.

Freshman keeper Matteo Malaguti (Mantova, Italy/Liceo Isabella d'este Mantova) preserved the first half shutout as the Indian Hills defense stood tall once again. de Almeida increased the lead to 3-0 early on in the second half after burying a close-range shot on an assist from Jaukovic and Fabian Arroyo (Ciudad Quesada, Costa Rica/Liceo San Carlos). Freshman Rafael Posada (Chicago, IL/West Chicago Community) tallied his third goal of the year in the 80th minute on an assist from Redmond to put the match out of reach.

On the year, de Almeida has now scored at least one goal in each of the team's five matches on the year. The freshman's six goals are fourth-most in the NJCAA while his 13 points rank sixth nationally.

As a team, the Warriors rank sixth nationally with 21 goals on the year while the team's 0.40 goals against average is tied for seventh-best in the NJCAA.

Next up for the Warriors is a trip to No. 17 nationally ranked Lewis & Clark Community College (IL). The two sides will square off at 2:00 PM on Saturday afternoon in Godfrey, IL.
