PERUZ'S BRACE LEADS NO. 7 WARRIORS AT HOME

Ottumwa, IA – No. 7 Indian Hills Men's Soccer used three second half goals to drop National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Midwest District foe Lincoln Trail College (IL) 3-1 at home on Wednesday. The Warriors move to 3-0-0 on the year.

Freshman Alessandro Peruz (Calalzo di Cadore, Italy/Enrico Fermi) found the back of the net twice late in the second half for his first two collegiate goals. Fellow freshman Gonzalo Garcia (Catagena, Spain/Colegio) opened up the scoring midway through the second frame for his first tally as a member of the Warriors. Sophomore Lucas Bauer (Oldenburg, Germany/IGS Kreyenbruck) provided assists on the first and third goals to help push the Warriors to victory.

In just the second meeting between the two programs, the Warriors secured their first victory over the Statesmen after the two teams tied in Robinson, IL last year during the inaugural meeting.

As a team, the Warriors outshot the Statesmen 17-10 on the day, including a 10-6 advantage in the second half. The Warriors earned five corner kicks to just two for Lincoln Trail.

Playing its third game in seven days to open the year, the Warriors put multiple scoring chances on net in the opening half, but the two sides went into intermission deadlocked at zero.

In the 63rd minute, the Warriors broke the tie as Garcia's one-touch strike from 18 yards out caromed off the far post and into the back of the net. Following a Lincoln Trail goal at the 71:01 mark, the Warriors responded in the 83rd minute as Peruz eluded a series of defenders inside the box and beat the keeper for the eventual game-winner.

Peruz added a second goal just over three minutes later as Bauer curved a corner kick into the box that found Peruz's head for the 3-1 advantage, a lead the Warriors maintained the rest of the way.

Sophomore Bernardo Manzano (Palmas, Brazil/Layton Christian Academy), this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Men's Soccer Goalie of the Week stopped four shots to move to 3-0-0 in net this year.

The Warriors return to action August 31 in Council Bluffs, IA with a neutral site matchup against Western Nebraska Community College at 3:30 PM. The game will be played at Lewis Central High School.
